The European Data Protection Day will be celebrated on the 28th of January 2008 by all member states of the Council of Europe.
The Council of Europe decided on celebrating this event, which also benefits from the support of the European Commission.
On this day the adoption in Strasbourg, on the 28th of January 1981, of Convention no. 108 on the protection of individuals with regard to the automatic processing of personal data – the first legal instrument in the field of personal data protection- is celebrated.
Celebrating the European Data Protection Day aims to increase awareness as regards the importance of the field of personal data protection and of the rights of European citizens.
In response to the invitation of the Gorj County Police Inspectorate and with the support of the Office of the Gorj County Prefect, the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing will organize on the 28th January 2008, in Tîrgu Jiu, a Public Debate on “The European Data Protection Day”.
